What Ingredients to AVOID on a Skincare Product for Kids

It's essential for parents to be well-informed about the ingredients in the skincare products they use on their kids. Skin in children is more sensitive and more vulnerable than skin in adults. For this reason, there are skin-friendly products designed specifically for kids.

When picking the best skincare product for your child, there are a few ingredients found in skincare products that you should stay away from. Always read the label before buying anything for your children off the shelf, and if you see these ingredients, you might want to put it back.

Here are some product ingredients that you should avoid for your kid's skin

Avoid products with Scents

Many fragrances contain a complex mixture of chemicals that may irritate the skin of your kid. Prefer products with natural fragrances like essential oils or those that are fragrance-free.

Products with Sulphates

Sulphates are harsh cleaning ingredients that can deplete the skin of its natural oils, lead to in dryness and irritation. Choose products with gentle, plant-based cleansers instead, such as aloe vera or coconut oil.

Products with Alcohol

Alcohol can dry out and irritate skin, especially in young children who already have sensitive skin. Instead, try to find out products with all-natural moisturizing components like Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice and Shea Butter.

Products with Parabens

A class of preservative known as parabens has been connected to health issues like cancer and hormonal imbalances. Look for products that contain natural preservatives instead, such as vitamin E or tea tree oil. Due to increased awareness that parabens are bad for your skin and health, you may already purchase skin care products that advertise their paraben-free status. The fact that parabens mimic estrogen in the body makes them known as xenoestrogens, which means they are used as preservatives in skin care products. You don't necessarily want to put something on your kids’ skin that begins to mimic estrogen, and one concern we have is the fact that they have been shown to alter hormones.

Ethanolamine

They mainly serve to increase the creaminess of skin care products. The problem is that exposure to ingredients like ethanolamine, which skin care companies use to make their products feel better for you, has been linked to liver cancer and precancerous changes in the thyroid and skin, so they could be damaging to the skin of your child.

Formaldehyde Releasers

They go by many names, but in essence, when you apply them to your skin, formaldehyde is released into the air, and as we all know, formaldehyde can damage DNA and even cause cancer.

Products with Artificial Colors and Dyes

These components have the potential to irritate skin and even trigger allergic reactions. Instead, seek out goods with natural colourings and ingredients, such as fruit and plant extracts.

It's important to be aware of the ingredients when selecting skincare products for your children and to stay away from those containing fragrances, sulfates, alcohol, parabens, ethanolamine, formaldehyde releasers, and artificial colors and dyes. You can contribute to the happiness and health of the skin on your children by selecting products with natural and gentle ingredients that cleanse and moiturize your kids' skin.
